Staggered monoblock wheels sitting flush in the arches

Wheel Offset & ET Explained: How to Get the Perfect Flush Fit

Offset is the single spec that decides whether your wheels sit perfectly flush — or poke out, or tuck in too far. Here's how to get it right.

You've picked your size and finish, then you hit a number like “ET35” and wonder what it means. Offset is arguably the most important fitment spec of all, so let's make it simple.

What offset (ET) actually is

Offset is the distance between the wheel's mounting face (where it bolts to your hub) and its true centerline, measured in millimeters. It's often written as ET (from the German Einpresstiefe). Three cases:

  • Positive offset (e.g. ET40): mounting face sits toward the front of the wheel — pulls the wheel inward. Common on factory cars.
  • Zero offset (ET0): mounting face is exactly on the centerline.
  • Negative offset (e.g. ET-10): mounting face sits behind the centerline — pushes the wheel outward for an aggressive, “deep” look.

How offset changes your stance

Lower the offset number and the wheel moves outward, toward flush with your fender. Go too low and the wheel pokes past the fender; too high and it tucks in and looks sunken. The sweet spot — wheel face sitting just inside the fender line — is that clean, planted OEM+ stance.

Why staggered sets use two offsets

Our staggered sets run a different width and offset front vs. rear on purpose — so both ends sit flush even though the rears are wider. That's the magic behind a proper staggered stance.

Getting it right for your car

  1. Know your car's factory offset (often stamped on the wheel or in the manual) as a baseline.
  2. Decide your look: subtle and flush, or aggressive and filled-out.
  3. Factor in lowering — dropped cars usually want a touch more conservative offset to avoid rubbing.
  4. Unsure? Send us your car details and we'll recommend the right fitment.
